Conference Lodging
The two hotels (Fort Garry Hotel, Humphry Inn) described below offer excellent rates compared with other hotels of similar quality, and we also reserved a block of rooms at a modern student residence (McFeetors Hall). To avoid disappointment, we strongly recommend that you reserve your lodging when you register for the conference.
May 23 update: Rooms are no longer available at the reduced conference rate. The hotel staff said there were only a few rooms left and the hotel may be sold out soon.
The historic Fort Garry Hotel (222 Broadway Ave) will be our home base during CSEE-CBA 2023. Built in 1913, this chateau style railway hotel in downtown Winnipeg is a short walking distance (0.5 to 1.0 km) to scheduled venues for the conference, to the Forks, and only 3 blocks from the river walk along the Assiniboine River. The Fort Garry offers an excellent breakfast (not included in the room price), lunches and dinners, and the hotel recently opened a patio. It also boasts a fitness facility and the luxurious Ten Spa.
The Humphry Inn and Suites, at 266 Main Street, 3 blocks (600 m) from the Fort Garry Hotel, is also close to all conference venues. The Humphry Inn is a bit more economical and breakfast is included in the price. It offers larger rooms suitable for 4 (“double queen” or “king studio”) or for 6 persons (“double queen studio” has 2 queens and one pull out couch), and has king and double queen wheelchair accessible rooms. Prices range from $129 to $159 (plus GST and a 5% accommodation tax) depending on the room size with $10 extra for each additional person over two, which includes breakfast.
To book a room at the Humphry Inn and Suites, use this link. Enter 185872 as the Group Code for CSEE-CBA 2023. Note: Once you enter dates and click the link, it may show you availability for June 9-16th (or a lack of availability because we only booked a few rooms for June 9 and June 15), even if you request a shorter period. You can adjust the arrival and departure dates at the next step. If you have trouble, phone the hotel for assistance with your reservation: 204-942-4222 or 877-942-4222 (toll free). The staff are super helpful.
McFeetors Hall at the University of Winnipeg (Fully Booked)
McFeetors Hall is a new student residence, which is next door to the Richardson College for the Environment, where several of the CSEE-CBA 2023 LOC members work. McFeetors Hall offers single rooms ($79.73 including all taxes; plus a 5% discount) that have a single bed, desk, chair, lamp, mini-fridge, and private bathroom. Double rooms ($116.08 for both rooms combined including tax; plus a 5% discount) have two single bedrooms, each with a single bed, desk, lamp and chair and shared space with a kitchenette and bathroom. Three VIP suites ($120.77 including tax; plus a 5% discount) offer a private bedroom with a double bed, living room, kitchenette, and bathroom. All rooms have WiFi.
McFeetors Hall is on the west side of the conference centre (the other hotels are on the east side), and within a short walking distance of the WAG / Qaumajuq gallery (700 m), the Convention Centre (1 km), and the Fort Garry Hotel (1.8 km). Several restaurants offering good lunches or dinners are close to McFeetors Hall, just across Portage Ave. Stella’s is an excellent place to stop for an excellent sit-down breakfast or to pick up coffee on the way to the Convention Centre.
